Missed Opportunities in Craft Business

AnkletsBraceletsFeb2014 (3)Missed opportunities in the craft business, for me, include this year’s Florida Folk Festival. Sadly, our RV decided it didn’t want to work and busted a radiator hose while we were traveling down I-10. We were stuck on the side of the road for about 9 hours in the heat of the day until my son-in-law was able to come by and help us replace the small 3 inch hose into it’s 1 inch space and refill the radiator. By the time we got it going again we decided to just head on back to our volunteer camping site at Olustee Beach. Even a greater tragedy is that I spent almost $400 on new supplies and materials for our booth to give it a fresh look. The organizers of the event has us place right around the main concert stage area so that we would have gotten some major traffic.

We were already at a slight disadvantage in that I traded our commercial grade vending tent before we were approved to this year’s festival. So that I was trying to figure out the best way to set up another type of tent that we were given but keep it dry over night and be able to close it up. We were really looking forward to being able to camp in the campground and just take a golf cart over to our vending tent every morning too. It would have been a great time for use to meet more vendors. Next year we hope to plan a little more in advance and get another opportunity to participate.

Oh, well, maybe next year. In the mean time mom has been crocheting her little hands off creating lovely checkered blankets. These take a great deal of time and yarn but have turned out really nice. While we are currently offering them for sale on our Handmade Amazon online store (see the box below) we will probably end of giving them as gifts (shhhhhh! don’t tell the kids)
