Crafting as a business is hard and sometimes weird things do happen. With the advent of more online businesses and services using artificial intelligence software for data verification we will have to put up with more misinterpretations of our descriptions, titles and our videos. An AI cannot possibly interpret our all human interactions around the world. There are hundreds of different languages, dialects and nuances based on region, and sometimes on emotions as well.

Using Translating Programs for Descriptions

Using language translators can sometimes be problematic if you do not speak that particular language or have a friend to help you do translations. We used Google Translator for our listings on the Handmade Mexico Selling pages. We just added the text we used in English and pasted it into the translations box. Then you reverse the process by translating the Spanish into English. Most of that worked really well. Thankfully, I took 4 years of Spanish in High School and we have some family members who were willing to help out. The French for the Amazon Canada side was a little more difficult so just adding the French at the bottom of the description sometimes helped to convert some buyers.

Now with computers interpreting what we are saying in our typed descriptions and even our videos and audio tracks misunderstandings are bound to occur. Granted, I,for one, enjoy having a “Natural” sounding computer voice in the background for some of our promotional videos. They allow me to use different accents and genders for promoting our products and services. However, you must review how they pronounce items, add in extra spaces for natural pauses in speech patterns and phonetically type out harder more regional dialect words.

Fight Against AI Interpretation Problems

Finally, Artificial Intelligence software can never replace a human being for getting people to like you and your products. People like to feel connected to the people and items they create with their own hands. You can never be replaced by a computer. So, keep working your handcraft business, read through all of your descriptions and connect to your buyers in a personal way. AND – always challenge a computer’s decision to disallow your products because they did not understand human speech patterns.
