Getting Ready for New Year of Crafts Fairs

Now is generally the time you want to get out the old calendar and schedule your upcoming vendor festivals you wish to participate in this coming spring. In Florida you might want to get them scheduled from February until the end of May when it just is too hot to be out there. There are several regular ones that you might want to try in the North Florida area which don’t really cost all that much to participate in, are usually on one day events, and get lots of people passing through. If you have a great product that you want people to see and start talking about these are the types of events you want to sign up for. If there is any way you can get a mobile shop together before sending in your application that would really be ideal. You want to stand out from the regular White-Tent crowd and having an unusual mobile shop that fits into a 10×10 space would certainly help you do that. It gets people talking and wanting to stop by just to see what you are all about. Even if you don’t sell many items make sure that each person has your business card or some other marketing idea that will help them keep you in their thoughts. Most of the Festivals that I sign up for in North Florida allow each vendor a little leeway in the space department but if you can just back into the 10×10 space, remove the hitch and open your doors so much the better!

I have found a trailer manufacturer who will create a heavy-duty metal trailer 8.5×10 feet with a removable hitch for around $2000 and comes with 4 jacks to stabilize the little house you build on top. You will have to come up with a design for your shop with windows, a door or two and shelves inside. The outside will be your advertising space and the materials should be tough but somewhat light-weight so that you can pull it with a standard sized truck or SUV. You will have to get a tag, of course, to make it legal with connected back-up lights.
