Dragon Scales Gloves jolenemac88, December 5, 2018December 11, 2018 Being as we don’t have any postal deliveries today we thought we might post an article about one of the hand crocheted items that seems to be very popular this time of year and that is our dragon scales fingerless gloves. We started making them about 3 years ago when my younger son sent us a picture of a pair he found and thought they were really cool. So I bought a pattern for one from someone on Etsy and later found a YouTube instructional video and downloaded that for mom to watch. She watched it several times, wrote some notes and experimented with the pattern that we paid for and came up with her own unique style and coloring for the arm warmers. My mom prefers to use the Caron Simply Soft yarn as their yarn is generally thinner than our normal Red Heart medium weight yarn. We have even tried the Love’s Soft yarn but they are still a little thicker than the Caron’s yarn. Caron has a wide variety of colors and the solids give you more yarn than variegated or festive varieties. In general, you can get only one pair out of a skein of yarn (that’s the solid colored one only folks so you will need 2 of the variegated ones). As with any creative project you have to do your own experimenting with color combinations, needle size and type, etc. We have sold quite a few pairs over the last couple of years and this year is proving to be the same. They are really nice and warm and look really cool on your arms. We got a request sometime 2 years ago about making them with just the scales on the front side of the glove. The client stated that they were too thick when she was trying to close her hand and type or text. Mom experimented for about 2 months off and on trying to get them to work, look good and be almost the same each time she created a pair. Much harder than you think. Finally she came up with a pattern and has been using it ever since. Next she is thinking about creating a pair with the scales all the way up the arm. Could be really neat looking especially if she just keeps the scales to the top of the arm warmers. I’m thinking either black, dark red or dark green with intermittent jewel tone colors up the arm! Here is the video my mom used as a jumping off point to making her own style of Dragon Scales Fingerless Gloves or Arm Warmers Here are pictures of the gloves mom has created over the last couple of years. Enjoy and get out there and experiement! https://swcstore.southernwomencrafts.com/product/dark-sparkling-blue-with-white-striped-dragon-scales-12×4-inch-fingerless-gloves Share this: Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window) Pinterest Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window) LinkedIn Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window) Tumblr More Share on Telegram (Opens in new window) Telegram Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window) Mastodon Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window) Email Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window) Nextdoor Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window) WhatsApp Share on Reddit (Opens in new window) Reddit Share on Pocket (Opens in new window) Pocket Share on Threads (Opens in new window) Threads Share on X (Opens in new window) X Like this:Like Loading... Summertime Great For Crafting June 6, 2017September 5, 2017 Summertime is great for crafting! Not only is it too hot to do much of anything outdoors here in Florida we do have air conditioning. So, rather than worry about not making any money by not going to festivals and shows because it is just too darn hot to sit outside under a white canopy tent hoping people will come by and make your day. Instead, I prefer to sit on my comfortable bed with my laptop and post articles to my blogs, upload any products that haven’t already been added to my online stores and make new products to have ready for the Fall season.
