Summertime is great for crafting! Not only is it too hot to do much of anything outdoors here in Florida we do have air conditioning. So, rather than worry about not making any money by not going to festivals and shows because it is just too darn hot to sit outside under a white canopy tent hoping people will come by and make your day. Instead, I prefer to sit on my comfortable bed with my laptop and post articles to my blogs, upload any products that haven’t already been added to my online stores and make new products to have ready for the Fall season. There is just nothing like creating in a cool, comfortable place that you haven’t had a chance to do in a while.
You can also take this time to organize your crafting supplies as well as your craft vendor supplies and display components. You can make or buy something new for the next vendor opportunity coming up. I always spend a little time looking at the photos of other vendor booths online and from places that we have visited or been a part of. Make note of what you liked, didn’t like, want to try or get inspired to create something totally different. Katie, my youngest, and I spent May and will spend part of June creating more of those wooden trees to hold our jewelry and some of the smaller crocheted items. We are looking into creating those wooden ladders to use instead of the big 8 foot tables we currently use. We have some reclaimed wood pallets that she took apart but we don’t have access to a planer to make them smooth. May just go with painting them with a good outdoor paint instead.
Personally, I am still looking for ways to build us a mobile boutique that we can load up all our items inside, connect it to the SUV and drive all over the state attending craft shows and music festivals selling stuff. Although my ideal is a new replica of the 1961 Holiday House travel trailer which is at least $25,000 or even the already made 8.5×10 enclosed trailer with a removable hitch which is about $4,000.
But until then we have been looking for a used trailer so that we can build a Tiny House Mobile Boutique on top of that. You have seen those pictures on Pinterest where people have painted a wooden house with flower boxes, trees, bushes, animals, etc. that on are on trailers that you can use as a “Shop on Wheels” or “Boutique on Wheels”. To heck with those food trucks and trailers give me a little mobile house with a small porch with all my stuff already on display, a/c unit and a quiet generator to keep it going. Of course, a small bathroom in the back would be great for us oldsters who don’t want to have to look for a potty somewhere close during the day. Of course, these can cost as little as $2000 up to $25,000 depending on if you are doing the work or someone else is and whether you care using reclaimed materials or all new. Then there is the trailer tag fees and registration. It would be a cool solution for this tired and hot craft vendor.
Till next time!
